Traditions are a big part of all holidays. These can be some of the best memories of the holidays. They can be what connects our present to our past. The shiny parts of every memory. Halloween is no exception. Here are some of the traditions of our staff here at Real Women of Gaming.
Thia the Bard’s favorite holiday is Halloween and they look forward to it every year. “My Halloween traditions have changed during the years due to moving. I always want to watch Hocus Pocus. As a Pagan I always want to have a Jack-O-Lantern out and lit. If I can give out candy I like to do that. Recently we have had our charity event finishing up on that night so that is a more recent tradition! Halloween may change for me frequently but it will always be my favorite holiday.”
Otter Limits’ Halloween has also changed. “Now that we don’t have a little one in the house, our Halloween Night traditions have changed. I always make something in the crockpot (stew, chili, chicken tortellini, etc) and we watch something fun, but seasonal such as Hocus Pocus or Practical Magic while passing out candy. We used to do extremely elaborate decorating of our yard (a graveyard, hanging ghosts, Jack o lanterns lining the driveway) but my husband’s health has made that difficult. We always have at least pumpkins though! As a pagan, we celebrate the new year the following Saturday and shoot flaming arrows for those who have passed during the year.”
Samj has a sweet night planned. “I usually make homemade pumpkin rolls. This year, I am learning the Wiccan way; I’m gonna crave either a small or medium pumpkin if I can find one by the end of October.”
Iris_thekeyblademaster also has an annual movie planned. “I like to end the night by watching The Nightmare Before Christmas. It feels like the perfect transition between Halloween and getting ready for Christmas (which I always start on November 1, lol).”
SaltyHylian, as always, has a game prepared. “I just usually play a random zombie game on Halloween night.”
Cmdr Joop has some treats in mind too. “The majority of my life it’s been Trick-or-treating. Though the years between my childhood and my own child’s I mostly got together with friends for small get togethers and movie nights. Costumes essential as we have always taken dressing up very seriously in my house, often making our own costumes. Mini Joop is starting to get to the point where they won’t want to trick-or-treat anymore so I am excited to see where it goes from here.”
