Thia’s Top Ten Vampire Movies

Vampires. Almost every culture has a version of them. They haunt not only our dreams but our stories as well. We in turn have hunted them and created protection rituals. Humans have created vampires out of words and shadows. Because of this, vampires have scared and then entertained us for centuries.

Here are some of my favorite movies and television shows that feature vampires.

Movie poster for Vampire Academy. Two white women and two white men stand before a purple-washed background including a large, neogothic building. The blonde woman on the right appears to have fangs and the dark haired woman to her left is holding a silvery metal stake. Above them is the text "Friendship Is Forever" in dripping black text. superimposed on their lower bodies is a text box that reads, "From the director of Mean Girls and the writer of Heathers, Vampire Academy, February 07 2014." It appears to be attached to the rest of the poster with duct tape.

  1. Fright Night– Charlie is just trying to enjoy his glow up. He’s finally popular and dating the girl of his dreams. Everything’s coming together, till his new neighbor enters the picture.
  2. Vampire Academy– Rose Hathaway is doing everything she can to keep her best friend safe. It is in her blood after all. As a Dhampir she was born to protect vampire royalty. However a world of secrets and a group of dangerous vampires aren’t making it easy.
  3. Vampires Vs The Bronx– A group of kids just want to protect their neighborhood. In the process they uncover a devious plot. Can they keep their neighbors safe and not get in trouble with their parents?
  4. Dracula-The granddaddy of all vampire movies. This movie saved an entire studio and gave us the blueprint for “romantic” vampires to come. When an enigmatic stranger moves next door there is excitement among our protagonists.
  5. The Invitation– Evie is struggling after the death of her mother. After finding a long lost cousin she ends up on a trip to England to meet more family. Is the trip really as innocent as it was presented to be?
  6. Reinfield– For years Reinfild has been serving Dracula. This service has come with benefits. Perhaps the cons of this monster of a boss are starting to add up and it might be time for him to move on.
  7. What We Do In The Shadows– A documentary about vampires living in the modern day. Really what else could you ask for? If you are looking for a laugh give this one a shot.
  8. The Lost Boys-A mother and her sons move to Santa Carla looking for a new start. What they find is a boardwalk with vampires and some great motorcycles. This is my favorite vampire movie and it never fails to make me happy.
  9. Buffy the Vampire Slayer– Buffy is a typical Valley girl who discovers she has a big destiny. Suddenly her world is a lot more than baseball games and the school dance. Will she be ready to defeat the Master when the time comes?
  10. Underworld-For centuries vampires have been at war with werewolves. A race is on between vampires and werewolves to see who will win the war. What will happen when the war spills over?

What is your favorite movie that features vampires? If I didn’t list it here please comment below. I am always looking for more movies. This also just scratches the surface of vampire stories I love. Would you like to see some of my favorite vampire pieces of media? Let me know!

Movie poster for Vampires vs. The Bronx. Heavily stylized image of four people on a teal-washed background that resembles heavy cloud cover. The figures are heavily washed in red and orange and they all appear to be in their early teens. The child in the back is holding a crucifix and his mouth is open as if screaming. Another child looks frightened and is holding a piece of wood with nails in it. The text below them reads "Vampires Vs. The Bronx, Oct 2, Netflix."
