What happens to ghosts if they need help solving a crime? If there is a demon? A witch? Who can they turn to? Well the Dead Boy Detective Agency, of course! 

In 2013 Neil Gaiman’s universe got a little bit bigger with the release of Dead Boy Detectives. Gaiman is a favorite author for many, with multiple literary hits. It is not surprising that fans latched onto these comics as well. With this popularity came a brand new opportunity. April 25, 2024 the boys got a new medium and a new home with the release of Dead Boy Detectives as a streamable series on Netflix!

Charles and Edwin are an extremely successful detective team. Their skill set and dedication make them the go-to sleuths in their community. It also helps that they are ghosts who solve mysteries for others who have passed. Their afterlife gets more complicated after helping a teenage physic and being pulled into a whole new set of cases. With all these changes come new problems for the boys. Including coming to terms with their own pasts. Through it all they face their problems with humor and, occasionally, a cricket bat. 

The soundtrack is great. The music adds to the story while also just being comprised of bangers. The costumes really deserve recognition in this series. Showing characters from different supernatural walks of life, social classes and time periods isn’t easy but this wardrobe department did just that. The sets show different cases and planes of existence. Really the whole show is a technical dream come true to watch. 

I would highly recommend Dead Boy Detectives. If you like Neil Gaiman’s style of storytelling you will love this series. It has his typical humor. It also has sharp turns into darker storylines. These themes are handled very well and are used as tools to get to know characters. Gaiman has always been a master of weaving together different themes. If you are unfamiliar with his work this would be a great introduction! 

I could sing this series praises forever. I am really hoping it will be renewed for more seasons as I am extremely invested in the characters. The cast and crew clearly care and their hard work shows.
