Started Watching Women’s Hockey During the Olympics? Try the PWHL Next!

Many people have started to watch hockey recently. No matter your reasons for starting to watch, fans have gotten to see some amazing Olympic games this year. If you enjoyed the women’s hockey matches you may be wondering where to watch these fantastic athletes now.

I am, also, a new fan of hockey. I have been wanting to watch it since I was a little kid. In 1992 I saw a movie about a kids hockey team and was pretty amazed by the concept of hockey as a whole. Unfortunately we didn’t have a local team, and as a kid I didn’t have a lot of say in what was watched on the family television. Last December I realized I had a chance to start watching so I could understand the game a little better in time for the Olympics.

I was fairly overwhelmed at where to start. There were a lot of options. Do I pick a team and start with them? Do I try to watch men and women’s hockey, or just start with one? The women’s league could be watched on their Youtube so I decided to start there. That way even if I missed a game with work I could watch it later with ease. I got hooked quickly and I am so glad I did. Being a new fan made the Olympics so special to watch. I even got teary eyed when the women’s team for USA won fold, which is saying something, as most sports do not hold my attention for very long.

The Professional Women’s Hockey League was founded in 2023. It features some of the best women’s hockey players in the world. It is the professional branch for women to play hockey in North America. The PWHL has players from around the world on its teams. This year the league expanded so there are now teams for Boston, Minnesota, Montréal, New York, Ottawa, Seattle, Toronto and Vancouver.

The PWHL travels to multiple cities where their players get to wow local audiences. Recently many of their players took the ice during the 2026 winter Olympics. They will also be making history by playing at Madison Square Garden on April 4th this year! The PWHL makes it easy to watch their matches online even if you can’t make it to a live game. Their commentary teams explain the game well for newcomers to hockey. Their Bluesky is well run and gives lots of updates.

I would also recommend going to see a local team if you have one. Then you can experience the sport live with other fans. The women’s hockey community has been very welcoming so far, in my experience. I know I have seen fans of different races, religions and sexual orientations active on various social media platforms. They have given information freely and also assured that their spaces are safe for new fans of all walks of life.

I hope that this was helpful. I have really enjoyed becoming a fan of the PWHL. As previously said, I have found a lot of their fan spaces to be very welcoming. Their youtube is interactive in the comment section. I am proud to be watching a league that is growing and evolving.

ALWAYS KEEP SPARKLING!!!
