Dr. Nyri Bakkalian: LGBTQIA Creator Spotlight

It has been said that people should know their history or be doomed to repeat it. That is one reason why historians are so important. Historians who can utilize new ways to teach others and share their passion are doing some very important work, particularly right now.

One such person is Dr.Nyri Bakkalian. Dr.Bakkalian is an Armenian-American queer woman whose field of study and training is military history. That is, in and of itself, just really cool! The study of military history gives so much insight into what a country valued at the time, where it’s money was going and how citizens were really thought of at the time. Like many historians Dr. Bakkalian has been publishing her findings in multiple places, a list of which can be found in the article linked above. Something a little different that she is doing however is a podcast. There the listener can listen to Dr. Bakkalian herself talking about various interesting topics. She has also been a guest on other podcasts, see the article for a full list of those episodes!

Dr. Bakkalian been published for more than her scholarly writings. She is in an anthology called Rogues and Wild Fire: A Smoldering Romance Anthology. Grey Dawn is a historical romance with queer characters that is getting rave reviews. Dr. Bakkalian has taken her love of history and has been able to weave it into beautiful works of fiction. I know that Grey Dawn has been added to my ‘to read’ list!

If you are looking to learn more about history please look into Dr. Bakkalian’s work. She has made sure to use more than one medium to spread her knowledge and love of history. She has been a delight to talk to about this article and so kind.

If you are looking to keep up with Dr. Bakkalian here are a list of her socials:

You can also support her via her Patreon! This would be a great way to fuel her projects with Turkish coffee.

I hope you will look into Dr. Bakkalian’s fantastic projects.
