It is always fantastic to see what people can achieve when they come together. Or, at least, it always seems fantastic to me when I watch it. I guess I will never stop being in awe of our conventions.
Friday morning, April 23 at 10:00 am EST, the virtual doors to Togethercon opened. The link to the discord was made public and the fun began. For the next three days guests, con goers, and staff gathered to celebrate our shared interests from the safety of our virtual world. Staff was available to help with any and all questions. Our guests and venders had some great treats in store.
There were panels of all types, were we had so many great discussions. Black Women in Horror was one panel that gave me much to think about. There were panels related to fandom, like anime. Mental health through gaming was also discussed. Workshops covered various topics as well. How to create one-shots, finding TTRPGs that are not just D&D, and the tour de force that is Kpop were just some of the topics.
Some really cool games where streamed live. The streamers really had a blast with our con goers. There were live shows that were beyond entertaining. Then of course there were our cosplayers. I saw those pictures, you all looked amazing! The venders had their own tables where con goers could not only see but actually talk to them about what was being offered. Some of the fun listed above was also streamed to our Twitch, so check there if you missed it!
At the end of the day what really mattered is the same thing that Togethercon is about at its core: it brought us all together. It gave us a space that was safe. Not just safe from disease, but safe to be ourselves. Safe to game. Safe to speak. Safe to just truly be. We created it and then got to run amok in it.
So much work goes into putting on a convention. It all paid off this weekend when we all got to enjoy this space we made. The staff were phenomenal, if I may take a moment to say so, and I will. I cannot find enough words of praise for the staff and those who helped us make Togethercon grow into a three day event. You are all fantastic!
Thank you to our guests. We could never have done this without you. Thank you to the Vendors. Your creativity brightened every part of the convention. Then a very special thank you to our con goers. You make this all worthwhile. We are so grateful to all of you for spending your weekend with us!
In short we had a blast. Stay tuned to our socials for information about next year’s Togethercon. We can’t wait to share this very special convention with you.
ALWAYS KEEP SPARKLING!!!
Thanks for wrriting
