Something about true crime appeals to many of us. Sometimes it is knowing that your fears are valid. It might be the puzzle that needs to be solved. For some folks it might be trying to understand how something so terrible could happen. There is also a very real thrill with true crime, which not everyone will understand but those who do love to experience.
Only Murders in the Building is a show for those who do understand and love it.
Premiering in 2021 true crime fans found both a home and a place to laugh at themselves in this show. Between the stacked cast and the well written episodes it is no surprise that the show has been a hit. Viewers and critics alike have been asking for more for multiple seasons now.
Three strangers seem to have nothing in common other than the apartment building in which they live. That is, until one fateful night when serendipity brings them together . As they bond over their love of a true crime podcast a real crime is happening in the building they call home. After deciding to solve the case, each for their own reasons, they start their own true crime podcast and gather clues. As the case unravels, so do their own secrets. Will they be able to solve the murder before they become the next victims?
The music in Only Murders in the Building is intentional and well thought out as a storytelling tool. It sets the tone of scenes, alerts the audience when danger is near or when a secret is about to be revealed. The sets are amazing. The use of New York as a backdrop is essential to the story. The sets for the different apartments give viewers clues about the inhabitants and the mystery itself.
The show is well shot, using practical effects and trick shots to build suspense. The camera work really should be studied in classes or if you are looking for ways to visually plant red herrings. The costumes add information about each character. Everything is very calculated in its job to provide clues.

I really love this show. As a true crime fan it checks all my boxes while also poking fun at the true crime community. I have been led astray a few times while watching this show, which doesn’t happen very often.
I totally recommend Only Murders in the Building for anyone. If you have never tried true crime or a thriller this is a great start for you. If you have been in these communities for years then you will also have a blast with this show. Older viewers and younger viewers can both laugh at jokes along with the cast of characters with mixed ages. They also have put a lot of work into representing different groups of people well in storylines.
Please give Only Murders in the Building a chance.
ALWAYS KEEP SPARKLING!!!
