To create something that other people relate to is a real feat. To take your passion and use it to put an idea onto paper that then someone will look at to see themselves is a gift. Some people work to hone their art and really share it with others.
One such person is Kristen Gudsnuk. Kristen took her love of art and turned it into some fantastic stories. She grew up in Shelton, Connecticut. From there she was able to take her talent and use it for something amazing through her comics. Currently Kristen lives with her boyfriend, her dog in Queens, New York.
Starting in 2014 a new comic about a young woman in an interesting situation. At first glance she seems like most people with a job. She is unhappy with the conditions of her job, which just so happens to be with a supervillain. It gets more complicated when her superhero parents are factored into the situation. Henchgirl was a hit that ran till 2019 with Dark Horse Comics.
Making Friends is about a middle schooler dealing with entering seventh grade. She uses magic to try to help her through her troubles. Making Friends was published in 2018 through Scholastic Books. Ever wondered what it would be like to have a desk job in a fantasy setting? Well then the four issue run of Modern Fantasy that was also published by Dark Horse Comics in 2018 is for you.
Kristen’s ability to take mundane problems and turn them into thrilling tales is not an easy task. It does, however, give more opportunities for open discussion about these mundane things. Too often people feel like they cannot talk about problems at work because these problems may be deemed too small. Or the difficulty of making friends and dealing with change as we grow older. By giving these stories superheroes or magic it gives new space for these topics to be broached. Also it just makes the stories really fun to read.
