RRR : Film Review

I have often wondered what a mash-up of a superhero film, a period epic, and a musical would look like. Finally, I now have my answer. It’s RRR (Rise, Roar, Revolt)!
RRR is an Oscar-Winning, Telugu-language action drama written and directed by S. S. Rajamouli. Set in pre-Independence era India, the film follows a fictionalized story about two real-life freedom fighters, Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem. It imagines that the men became best friends and united to fight against British rule in India.

The film’s standout visuals, superhero-level action sequences, and impressive ensemble cast, led by Jr. NTR and Ram Charan, made the movie something special. It moves from set piece to beautiful set piece with ease. Bringing in aspects of romantic comedy and high drama helped keep up the film’s momentum throughout the three-hour runtime.

The music, composed by M. M. Keeravani, added another level of brilliance to this already wildly entertaining film. While the plot may seem a bit clichéd, the performances and masterful execution of the storytelling more than made up for it, making it an enjoyable watch for fans of the genre.

RRR is currently available dubbed into multiple languages on Netflix. It is also available in its original language, Telugu, on the Indian film streaming service ZEE5.
