Gaming News: Halloween Events in Games 2018

Hey everyone! It’s my FAVORITE time of year! October! Halloween! Black cats and Vampires roam! And hopefully they find their way into our favorite games! I know that all year I look forward to Halloween events so I thought I’d share a few that have great looks and fun stuffs to do!

First up, Fortnite.

fortnite

As I’m writing this, we are in week 2 of Season 6 in Fortnite Battle Royale. This season is full of spooky costumes, new pets and challenges to keep you busy. While Epic hasn’t officially said what is going on for Halloween this year, there are big expectations since their original release was around Halloween. There has been some information leaked that there will be Halloween quests for the PVE side, Save the World. Also, they have already decorated for Halloween on the Battle Royale Map for Season 6. You can find spooky ghosts hoisted up randomly on lightposts and houses. There are spooky cornfields in Fatal Fields and a Halloween Store in Retail Row currently. And they’ve already had a few costumes out in the store. I know I’m looking forward to seeing all that they release this year!

Next, Overwatch.

frankensteinOW

Everyone knows that Blizzard loves their holidays and this year is no exception. As always with Overwatch, previous years skins are available during Halloween Terror. There are also 6 new skins available this year and a limited-time brawl. Junkenstein’s Revenge is a fan favorite, including mine, where you can rage against your friends or random people. New this year to Junkenstein is the ability to use Brigitte and Tracer. Also, if you feel like dropping some cash on it, if you buy the 50 Halloween Loot boxes bundle you can get 10 free. This even started on October 9, 2018 and goes through the end of October.

Another Blizzard Favorite – World of Warcraft.

wowhallowsend

Every year, we get the Hallow’s End event. There are temporary broomsticks to ride, masks to wear, and tons of Inns to trick or treat at. There are achievements for wearing all the masks, eating so much candy you get sick, and interrupting the other sides fun. You get to go burn the opposing faction’s wickerman and you can eat G.N.E.R.D.S and kill them in PVP. It’s always fun to put out the fires and kill the Shade of the Horseman. Make sure you put pumpkins on all races, clean your teeth with toothpicks, get transformed by all the wands, and going to all the Candy Buckets. Most of all, make sure you ready up and kill the Headless Horseman in the Scarlet Monastery. I don’t know about you, but I’m still itching to get his mount! This goes from October 18 – November 1, so don’t miss it!

A new game this year – Monster Hunter: World

mhw-autumn

Currently in this game, they have an Autumn Festival going until October 18th. This seems to include their Halloween activities this year and has costumes for your Palico and Poogie; as well as a new dress for your handler. Not to mention, the spooky gear you can get for yourself. There are quests as well which seem to be extended to October 25th due to some issues. If this is your game, make sure you don’t miss this!

P.S. If you already have this game, you got a free voucher on the 5th for a one-time character redesign!

Another MMO, Black Desert Online.

bdohalloween2

It isn’t entirely clear what is going on in BDO this year, but if it’s anything like last year there will be quests with hat rewards, event boxes, and possible login rewards. They do already have bundles for sale (IRL money) on their store from previous Halloweens. There are costumes, mount skins, prop bundles, wall décor, a lighting set, a table set, and even a Jukebox available. Some are in limited quantity so make sure you get them while you can!

An honorable mention for Halloween that makes me sad: Ark is foregoing its annual Fear Evolved event because of the new DLC drop the beginning of November – Extinction. Until next time, play what you love!

Games to Get Excited About: World of Warcraft: Legion

As an avid World of Warcraft player, I’m particularly excited about their latest expansion: Legion. From the Battlenet website:

The Tomb of Sargeras has been reopened, and the demons of the Burning Legion pour into our world. Their full, terrifying might is fixed on summoning the Dark Titan to Azeroth – and they’ve already located the key to his return.

With Alliance and Horde devastated, only you can take up Warcraft’s most legendary artifacts, scour the ancient Broken Isles for relics of the Titans, and challenge the Legion before Azeroth’s last hope dies.

Steel yourself, champion. Extinction is imminent.

How freaking cool is that?!

Besides having a bad ass storyline about freaking demons, Legion also comes with a new class: Demon Hunter! This class is made up of elves who have been outcast because they chose to wield the powers of the Legion. They can tap into demonic powers and change into new, hellish forms.

The Demon Hunters have two specializations, according to Battlenet: Havoc and Vengeance. Havoc – which focuses more on Damage Per Second (DPS) – wields “fiery demonic powers,” while Vengeance – a tank – focuses on melee combat and can withstand massive damage.

The new expansion also offers five new weapons. These “artifacts of legend” are particularly effective against the Burning Legion. First, we have the Ashbringer, which is a two-handed sword wielded by Paladins. Second, the Maw of the Damned is a two-handed axe for Death Knights. There is also a mage staff called Ebonchill, a monk staff called Sheilun and a hunter’s bow called Thas’dorah.

A new World of Warcraft expansion always features a new area to explore. In Legion, we get to see The Broken Isles. This is where the Burning Legion has its start. The Broken Isles are also home to ancient elven civilizations and other dangers, such as satyrs, drogbar and Kvaldir.

Along side these awesome new features, we also get Class Halls, where you can bring together NPCs from your class’s order to complete missions at your command. Legion also offers new dungeons, new raids and new world bosses for you and your guild to conquer.

In an effort to bring in new and old players alike, Blizzard has raised the level cap to 110, revamped the PvP system, improved social features and added a character boost to level 100.

Everything I’ve heard about Legion has been absolutely amazing. My guild members have been talking about it for months. Several of us have even pre-purchased it, which has its own benefits: giving you the boost to level 100 and early access to the Demon Hunter class.

It’s bound to be light years better than Warlords of Draenor… hopefully.

If you go to battlenet, you can opt-in for beta testing or pre-purchase Legion today for $49.99 (standard) or $69.99 (deluxe). As of right now, it is set for release on or before September 21, 2016.

We have a long six months ahead of us.

Don’t stand in the green stuff and heal the tank…

When you first approached me about the topic the idea sparked a lot of immediate emotions. Both as a gamer and a game developer it kind of angers me a bit that women still aren’t really ‘meshed’ into the community just the same way men are.10514580_869880693025644_7412229315058129210_n

For a guy to come into any game room and start playing is no big deal, depending on their skill level. For a woman to pop into a game room, they are unfortunately faced with a vast array of reactions. Everything from neutral, ‘hey, sup?’ reactions all the way to the creepy stalker gamer who tries to follow them out of the game and onto Facebook and from there potentially in to real life. It’s a really scary thought process.

As a guy, when a woman comes into a game I even still do my own analysis. Primarily my reaction is to sit back and watch how others react. I of course offer a general greeting, but I’m automatically on the defensive FOR them. Not that they need it, but more so that I don’t want a community where I spend a lot of my time to turn into a sandpit of 2 year olds throwing dirt at the girl in the boys club – it’s ridiculous. Of course I’m assaulted with male reactions of, ‘oh wow, finally, a lady joins the fray of insanity!’. I think that the initial thought process anyone has when a male OR female joins a game is entirely naturally theirs, but how they voice it or express it – is a choice.

Why I need……

Gaia LogoMy name is Crymson Pleasure of Real Women of Gaming and I need feminism. I’ve been an avid gamer since I was a child and I am sick and tired of being told to prove myself. As a gamer, as a geek, I am more hardcore and passionate about my D&D characters than most people are about anything.

I need it so men will stop asking me if my breasts look as nice as my avatars. So I stop getting asked to send pictures to prove I’m not a guy playing a girl character in World of Warcraft. That is not my husband whooping someone’s ass in Halo with me on the headset. Bitch, I’m just that good. That I don’t play trading card games because my husband asked me to. Goddess forbid I actually enjoy something on my own or have my own thoughts, opinions, ideas or *GASP* interest.

Because I’m not some 400 lbs hermit with 50 cats playing a game, who has never had a boyfriend or sex. Nor am I a whore/slut that will date/have sex with you just because I happen to be female and playing a game. Also, saying no doesn’t make me a cold frigid hateful bitch; it makes me a human being with a choice. I didn’t pick up my boyfriend/husband/brother/friend’s controller and, no sir, I’m buying this video game for me, not the man of the house. Promptly and quickly shove it up your ass.

I’m not a man hater. I’m a troll hater. I want the same praise that you’d give anyone for doing well. I want to not fear talking over the headset because I know the second I am recognized as being a women, I am instantly a target for sexism/hatred/some weird fantasy. I also expect the same shit talk without my gender being brought into play.

I want to play without fear of being outed or targeted. I want to play.

So shut up and play.

Gaming Couples

It's Dangerous There seems to be a lot of stigma surrounding the ever elusive creature known as the ‘gaming couple.’ I have heard a lot of negative things about gaming couples and very little positive. I also hear a lot of crap directed at one person or the other in the relationship. “Oh she only plays X because he does;” “Oh he plays Y because his girlfriend/wife made him.” I am here to clear up more than a few things about the mysteriousness around it, but one more than anything else.

Everything you’ve heard is utter bullshit.

Lets start off with a bit of background. I’ve ALWAYS been into video games; my husband has ALWAYS been into video games. We have ALWAYS been into Trading Card Games; we have ALWAYS been into board games. He doesn’t force me to play anything and I don’t force him to play anything. Out of respect for our bond, we will totally try something that the other one is into, but that doesn’t mean we are totally into it.

I can’t play any of the Ghost Recon/Call of Duty games for shit. I’ve tried on several occasions. I like them enough but I don’t like the realistic aspect of it (not to mention the fact that I REALLY suck at them). Now, give me Gears of War or Halo and I will beat a bitch’s ass whilst trash talkin’ ‘bout your Mom (a habit I am really trying to break), but I try every game he asks me to. He tries every game I ask him to, also. This doesn’t stop at gaming. I got him into Doctor Who; he got me into Hell’s Kitchen. I got him (kinda) into Anime; he got me (kinda) into sports.

Being a Guild Leader made me Hate who I was

Queen LogoSo, there is a lot of explaining to do.

For years (and I’m talking like 5+ years), I was a Guild Leader for World of Warcraft. I’ve lead Guilds in City of Heroes, City of Villains, Guild Wars and Star Wars. You name it, I’ve basically lead a guild in it.

None were more profound nor more tragic than the 5+ years in World of Warcraft.

Now, I could tell you about every decision I made, every move I made, every guild that hated me and every fight I had, but I will only tell you this much:

It was all a lie.

I started a Guild because I wanted to simply be in a Guild that acknowledged my existence; that was happy I was around; that had people happy to see me. I never had any ideas of power laid about before me. I started it with the noblest of concepts: the concept that everyone would belong.

That is not the truth. As a Guild Leader, without me knowing better, I had been manipulated, played, bullied and hated. I eventually left.

Can’t we all just game along

Get AlongSomething very interesting happened to me the other day and I want to share it with you now. As much as I don’t want to say ‘I hope you see the lesson here,’ I really kind of hope you do.

I play League of Legends.

I started playing League of Legends at the suggestions of some other page Admins and a few fans of the page. I won’t say I’ve never been into PVP (Player Vs Player) because I enjoy it to an extent and sometimes I get very carried away with it. I either stream curse words about the match or I am extremely quiet. If I’m grouped with people I will attempt to help them as best as I can. However that usually comes out as me screaming, ‘There is some F&^K WAD BEHIND YOU.’

I play a healer/support character in LoL (League of Legends). Now don’t give me that ‘girls make the best healers’ crap because, I swear to Sylvanas, I will come to your house and kick you in the nuts so hard that squirrels will cringe for your pain. As I was saying, I play a healer. Why? excellent question. I’ve always played warriors, scrappers; they wade in and beat the crap outta everything until it’s dead. One thing was brought to my attention. A little bit before WoW (World of Warcraft) a friend made a joke calling me Leeroy Jenkins* and I didn’t get it. My husband laughed because he did and I was informed that was an accurate description of my play style. Even after I learned what that name meant, I still did it. I was famous for running out of a battle screaming in Vent (Ventrilo) ‘Oh shit Oh shit Oh shit…..’ cause I was about to be owned. Even better were the times I forgot I was a squishy (easily killed character, i.e cloth wearer). I would be running away from something screaming ‘I am NOT a level 70 Warrior, I am NOT a level 70 Warrior’**. I always waded in, be damned everything else, and tried to take things out. Hell I STILL do it. I really don’t care either.
