Games to Get Excited About – November 2018 Edition

The 2 games I’m most excited about this month are probably not a big surprise. Everyone is excited about the upcoming Fallout 76 and if you are a survival buff like me then you are equally excited for Ark: Extinction. Just in case you aren’t familiar with these, let’s have a chat..

Fallout 76 – November 14, 2019

So if you have ever wanted an apocalyptic game, you probably have heard of the Fallout series. It starts with Fallout 1 that takes place in 2161 and the following games go all the way to 2287 in Fallout 4. Well, this time Bethesda is taking us back in time to 25 years after the bomb drops – in 2102. Only, it’s not just a prequel, it’s also a multi-player game! Fallout 4 takes us to the doors of the bomb shelters opening for the first time after the bombs drop and we can play with our friends in this new/old world that is the largest dynamic world in Fallout history.

You can still play solo (for those who hate people), but if you choose to play multiplayer then there are no characters in the world that aren’t players and this sounds really fun. The price of Fallout 76 is the normal AAA price of $59.99 and up. If you want to see some video on it, check below. I’ll admit that I haven’t played any but Fallout 4, and thanks to a hard drive malfunction.. Not much of that. But, this looks like a ton of fun and I’d recommend it if you have the extra cash.

Ark: Extinction – November 6, 2019

So let’s start with the basics. Ark: Extinction is the third DLC for the base game Ark: Survival Evolved; which is a survival game set on an island, on another planet, full of dinosaurs. Be prepared to craft your own clothes, shelter, hunt for food, and survive the carnivores. This new DLC takes us back to where it all began, Earth. It’s hard to tell just how much time has passed because Earth is now a wasteland full of mutants, but it’s obvious this is the future because of the technology – and the new dinosaurs. Not only do we have mutated dinosaurs here, but also technological creatures to worry about. Not to mention, those mutated dinosaurs that have turned corrupted. These will always hunt you down if they see you, plus, they get pack mentality and can raid your base for the element you have gathered.

This new world looks awful and amazing at the same time. There are new gadgets, like drones, that become available. There might even be crafting of your own “pets” if they decide they don’t want us taming the tech creatures. This is going to be the hardest planet to survive on yet, but you can always make it easier by taming yourself a Titan. Yes, a Titan. There are two confirmed so far – the Frost Titan and the Forest Titan; that are tamable! For a peak of what’s to come check below. If you don’t own Ark at all then you have to buy the base game ($49.99) first, but if you have it then Extinction is $45.99 (there is also a bundle).  I would absolutely recommend this game for anyone who likes survivals. I have all the Ark’s and have not been disappointed yet. I mean there are mods upon mods to make the world what you want and even other maps and whole other play styles. Can be great for role-play as well.

So, if you enjoy survival games or apocalyptic MMO’s then pick these games up this month! You can head over to buy Fallout 76 here or run over here for Ark: Extinction on Steam! Or head to your local game store for a copy! That’s all for this month, time to get looking at what comes out in December! Til then, play what you love!

Review: The Haunting of Hill House (TV Show)

I love horror. Be it movies, books, TV shows.. I want it all. So when I heard that Netflix was going to do a series called The Haunting of Hill House, I could not wait! The day it came to Netflix I started watching it, and I was hooked. None of us are immune to binge watching, but be prepared to not put this one down.

First, let’s do a little history on the show. It is a re-imagining of Shirley Jackson’s 1959 Gothic novel The Haunting of Hill House. This book is one of the best horror stories of the 20th century and isn’t so much about the horror as the terror. To be exact, it wants to make you dread what comes next more than it wants to scare you and gross you out like most in the genre. It was originally adapted into a British movie called The Haunting in 1963 where a group of paranormal investigators investigate Hill House. Most people probably know the 1999 version of The Haunting, starring Liam Neeson, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Owen Wilson, and Lili Taylor. I know that was my first introduction to this story, and I love that one as well.

This latest version of the original story is terrifyingly surprising. Netflix and creator Mike Flanagan did a superb job creating this masterpiece of terror. I do warn you, there might be some spoilers ahead, so read on if you dare!

The Haunting of Hill House is about a family of 7, the Crain’s, that once lived in Hill House. The children are now grown up and each has their own problems in life that all stem from their time spent there. They have all tried very hard to keep the past in the past, but it’s catching up to them and there is nothing they can do about it. I really don’t want to reveal too much, but each of the 5 children is special in their own way and despite their hardships and differences the family sticks together in the end.

The journey the Crain’s take in this 10 episode season is remarkable. There are moments of love, of pain, of sadness and trust me you will feel all the feels right along with them. There are most definitely jump scares, hidden ghosts, and subtle hints as to what’s really going on. Be prepared for many, many flashbacks that eventually make a lot of sense. The red door is a big part of the plot, as is Mrs. Crain, so keep your eyes on them.

The cast does a tremendous job at portraying their characters and telling you the story of the summer that rules their lives. I would absolutely love to see another season of this in the future. I’m not sure if continuing on with the Crain family’s future would be the way to go, but I’d love to see the story behind the original owners of Hill House and how they became what they were. They don’t play a big part in this story, but they are definitely part of the reason the house is what it is.

I didn’t find this series horrifying and I didn’t get any nightmares from it, but it does seem to truly scare some. So beware if you get easily spooked! The story unfolds at a steady pace, so don’t worry about any slow moments making you wish you were watching something else. In fact, it will probably be over before you are expecting and then you’ll miss the Crain family and all the suspense in their lives.

Gaming News: Halloween Events in Games 2018

Hey everyone! It’s my FAVORITE time of year! October! Halloween! Black cats and Vampires roam! And hopefully they find their way into our favorite games! I know that all year I look forward to Halloween events so I thought I’d share a few that have great looks and fun stuffs to do!

First up, Fortnite.

fortnite

As I’m writing this, we are in week 2 of Season 6 in Fortnite Battle Royale. This season is full of spooky costumes, new pets and challenges to keep you busy. While Epic hasn’t officially said what is going on for Halloween this year, there are big expectations since their original release was around Halloween. There has been some information leaked that there will be Halloween quests for the PVE side, Save the World. Also, they have already decorated for Halloween on the Battle Royale Map for Season 6. You can find spooky ghosts hoisted up randomly on lightposts and houses. There are spooky cornfields in Fatal Fields and a Halloween Store in Retail Row currently. And they’ve already had a few costumes out in the store. I know I’m looking forward to seeing all that they release this year!

Next, Overwatch.

frankensteinOW

Everyone knows that Blizzard loves their holidays and this year is no exception. As always with Overwatch, previous years skins are available during Halloween Terror. There are also 6 new skins available this year and a limited-time brawl. Junkenstein’s Revenge is a fan favorite, including mine, where you can rage against your friends or random people. New this year to Junkenstein is the ability to use Brigitte and Tracer. Also, if you feel like dropping some cash on it, if you buy the 50 Halloween Loot boxes bundle you can get 10 free. This even started on October 9, 2018 and goes through the end of October.

Another Blizzard Favorite – World of Warcraft.

wowhallowsend

Every year, we get the Hallow’s End event. There are temporary broomsticks to ride, masks to wear, and tons of Inns to trick or treat at. There are achievements for wearing all the masks, eating so much candy you get sick, and interrupting the other sides fun. You get to go burn the opposing faction’s wickerman and you can eat G.N.E.R.D.S and kill them in PVP. It’s always fun to put out the fires and kill the Shade of the Horseman. Make sure you put pumpkins on all races, clean your teeth with toothpicks, get transformed by all the wands, and going to all the Candy Buckets. Most of all, make sure you ready up and kill the Headless Horseman in the Scarlet Monastery. I don’t know about you, but I’m still itching to get his mount! This goes from October 18 – November 1, so don’t miss it!

A new game this year – Monster Hunter: World

mhw-autumn

Currently in this game, they have an Autumn Festival going until October 18th. This seems to include their Halloween activities this year and has costumes for your Palico and Poogie; as well as a new dress for your handler. Not to mention, the spooky gear you can get for yourself. There are quests as well which seem to be extended to October 25th due to some issues. If this is your game, make sure you don’t miss this!

P.S. If you already have this game, you got a free voucher on the 5th for a one-time character redesign!

Another MMO, Black Desert Online.

bdohalloween2

It isn’t entirely clear what is going on in BDO this year, but if it’s anything like last year there will be quests with hat rewards, event boxes, and possible login rewards. They do already have bundles for sale (IRL money) on their store from previous Halloweens. There are costumes, mount skins, prop bundles, wall décor, a lighting set, a table set, and even a Jukebox available. Some are in limited quantity so make sure you get them while you can!

An honorable mention for Halloween that makes me sad: Ark is foregoing its annual Fear Evolved event because of the new DLC drop the beginning of November – Extinction. Until next time, play what you love!
