Top 10 Video Games I’ve Actually Beaten

10. Dragon Age Franchise

giphy1
I almost didn’t add Dragon Age because, even if I have beaten every game, I didn’t want to add another RPG to the list. However, not only is RPG one of my favorite types of games, Dragon Age is an amazing series. Even the second one – oh yeah, I said it – which was rushed did well with that they had (YOU CAN’T RUSH ART!). I can’t wait for the 4th one!

9. Civilization Revolution

So Civ Revolution is one of those games that doesn’t really have an ending, you just win rounds. Well, I’ve won it a ton and it’s probably my favorite of the series. It is different than most of the Civ franchise games and still a wonderful game to play and one I’ve put many, many, many, many hours into.

8. Borderlands  1 & 2

I LOVE Borderlands! Both games were exceptional for totally different reasons. I had a lot of trouble getting into Pre-Sequel, which I know is a great game but it wasn’t capturing my attention at the time. Not only was it great to play, I miss a lot of the characters and hope they do so much more in the future. If you like FPS RPGs then you HAVE to play this series. Full of badass women and men, tons of inappropriateness and more guns than you can literally shake a stick at!

Influential Female Characters: Evie Frye

Influential Female Characters: Evie Frye

evie eye roll

It isn’t easy being a woman in Victorian times. Neither is being an assassin intent on cleaning up an insanely corrupt London.  Evie does it with grace and snark. Her targets hardly stand a chance against her precision when killing. When it comes down to it there really isn’t a better woman for the job then Evie Frye.

acs-gameplay-og-EVIE Assassin’s Creed is a gaming franchise that has produced many successful games. There was even a movie made from the concept of the games recently. Players have been able to choose highly trained assassins in multiple areas and times in history; including but not limited to the American Revolution, the French Revolution and the golden age of piracy to play. These characters have targets, for various reasons, to dispose of. In Assassin’s Creed Syndicate the player gets to play as both Jacob and Evie Frye.

Evie  is the elder of the Frye twins. Both were trained by their father in the ways of assassins. Evie, however, took her training just a little more seriously. She and her brother are in London trying to rid the city of corruption in their own way. Evie’s way just happens to be using all her training and brains to kill her targets.

Evie is honestly just a fun character to play. She is beyond capable in a role that we haven’t gotten to see many of her gender participate in. She is sarcastic. She is ruthless at times. She is so smart. She fights just as well as any of the other assassins. If you have been searching for a female character with depth and daggers, I suggest you pick up Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. Yes, you have to switch between playing Evie and Jacob but at least she is an option, which has been lacking in the other Assassin’s Creed games, save one.

Evie and Jacob have a great sibling relationship despite being so different. It is nice to see a character whose base concept is that of a killer to also be shown as so human. Her scenes with Jacob help to show that. They tease each other. They challenge each other. The Frye twins keep each other human as they hunt down their targets and I am really happy that they get to have that complexity given to them.

So if you are looking for a femme fatale in a historical setting, I would giving Assassin’s Creed Syndicate a try!

what a cutie

Always keep sparkling!

Games to Get Excited About: Horizon: Zero Dawn

Games to Get Excited About: Horizon: Zero Dawn

Developers: Guerrilla Games
Publishers: Sony Interactive Entertainment
Platform: PS4
Release Date: 2016

horizon zero dawn

Horizon: Zero Dawn is an action RPG set to be released for PlayStation later this year. Not only is it the first RPG created by Guerrilla Games, this game will also be their first new release since the Killzone series started in 2004.

Set 1,000 years in the future, Horizon: Zero Dawn takes place on Earth, which humans have since abandoned. Overrun with robots, only a few humans remain.

The player takes control of a character named Aloy. Aloy is a hunter and an archer, who utilizes both ranged and melee attacks (my favorite!). While I still do not know what the overall goal is, Aloy travels through her Earth, completing missions while fighting all sorts of mechanized creatures along the way.

The production of Horizon: Zero Dawn began in 2011. The studio brought in John Gonzalez, who was the head writer for Fallout: New Vegas, to create the story for the game. The concept explores the conflict between the beauty and danger of the world around Aloy. The game also analyzes the idea of humans no longer holding their place at the top of the food chain.

It is an open world game and has been said to be a cross between Assassin’s Creed and Skyrim. When not completing missions, the world can be explored to your heart’s content. In order to encourage explanation, there will be a quest system as well as materials throughout the world that players can use to craft new items.

The fighting style varies by player. You can shoot your enemies with arrows or engage in melee combat, as I’ve mentioned above, but you can also set traps and use explosives to get the job done. For the rogue-loving players, you’ll even be able to perform silent take downs. How cool is that?

The elements that I find most appealing about this game are that the main character is a badass female, the world looks absolutely gorgeous, there won’t be loading screens and the gameplay looks smooth and challenging. I only wish there was a more set release date than “sometime this year.”

Unfinished Business

m_diablo3_01I was having an interesting conversation with my husband the other night. I was looking at the games on sale for the Xbox One and asking him if he was interested in any of them. I noted that “Lego Marvel” was on sale for $5 – but he would rather spend that on the next episode of “Tales of the Borderlands” or “Game of Thrones” (which are two very impressive episode games, much like “The Walking Dead”). I also saw that “Diablo III” was on sale for $30, the collector’s edition.

E3 for you and me

Crackdown 3

E3-2014Looks like awesomesauce! I was a huge fan of the first two. Well, the first one a bit more than the second, but that happens. I am really wondering what turn the storyline will take with this one. However, this game did give me achievement issues. As in, must have them ALL!

Halo Collection
Halo is the reason I got into Xbox in the first place. Well, that or Ghost Recon. I don’t remember that well. Anyway, I was excited to see that Halo was picked back up and beautifully done with Halo 4. I think I might have to pick this bundle up.

Halo 5: Guardians
SQUEE! Of course there is a beta with the purchase of the bundle. Damn it!

Gaming Review 1/22

Image

So lets get started with the Video Game portion, shall we?

Now, before you start asking a few obvious questions, let me throw some answers at you.

I do only (currently) own: Xbox 360, Computer, Nintendo, SNES, N64, Sega, Playstation 1 & 2, Smart Phone, PSP and Game Boy Advanced. Whenever we get some rich benefactor that will gladly pay for me to have all of the systems and play games to my heart’s content, this is what I work with. However, I am always interested in what other people think as well as different systems. I am hoping we can continue to expand our Admin base and give you wonderful reviews on all of the games you want to hear about, but for now you will just have to stick with what we have to work with.

Also I will be working on reviews from Demos that I play. Why, you ask? Same reason, as much as I wish I had all the money to buy all the games, it just doesn’t work like that. So I will review demos, full games, new games, old games, whatever strikes my fancy. I am more than happy to do a requested review if I have access to the game.

Now with that said lets get with the reviews:
