There are some truly great female characters out there. Here are some of our staff’s favorites. They ran the gambit and, honestly, we wouldn’t have it any other way.

irs_thekeyblademaster ‘s first thought was Mulan. “She’s hyped as THE Strong Female Character, but what I like about her is how relatable she is. She struggles to fit in and meet people’s expectations, but not in a ‘Not Like Other Girls’ way because she initially struggles to fit in with the army too. Mulan is smart and determined, so she figures out how to meet challenges in her own way, whether by using the weights to climb the pole or causing an avalanche.”

Samj also had an animated lady in mind. “Kida! She is an absolute legend—she didn’t become a queen for no reason, and she also showed that she is the woman we can be like using intelligence. She didn’t rush to be married either. She and Milo were friends first, way before they got married to each other. She is not afraid of any shit coming to her, and she is willing to help and wants to understand things the way the world goes by.”

PhoenixNymphy had a different choice from childhood. “Jessica Rabbit. She’s just a badass. Okay seriously. When I was younger I wanted to be her. Looking back I realize I’m drawn to her because she owns her sexuality and works with. She’s totally underestimated over and over again throughout the movie because everyone assumes she’s the obvious femme fatale but really she’s saving her partner whom she loves enough to use every advantage she had to save her bunbun. She’s obviously hot but she’s actually a really fucking badass woman that’s why I love Jessica Rabbit from Who Framed Roger Rabbit because when you’re in a good healthy relationship you’ll do whatever it takes to save the ones you love. Remember “I’m not bad, I’m just drawn that way.”

Photograph of Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. She has light skin, short blond hair in pigtails, mismatched dangle earring, close fitting metal charm necklace, and a blood splattered white t-shirt. Her mouth is open in a wide grin or laugh.

Crymson Pleasure’s favorite has also resonated with her for years. “Harley Quinn. She appeared in the cartoon as a one off character and was so loved she stayed on. She is an intelligent, talented woman who isn’t 100% there. She goes through the shit. Broken over and over. She gets back up and gives the world (and her ex) a middle finger and does things her way. Is she the best hero? Nope. She’s trying. She was broken, picked herself back up, and did her own thing. She’s weird, quirky and owns her mistakes and I love her for it.”

MartianKat had a newer character in mind. “Michonne from The Walking Dead. Her character development from when we first met her, as a cloaked loner, walking her zombies, to becoming a true leader is just amazing. She allows her vulnerability to show when she started to open up to Rick, leading to their romantic relationship. She is fiercely loyal, and protective of those she cares about, and an all around badass when it comes to her fighting, and survival style.” This is also Prince Rilie’s favorite!

Photo of Danai Gurira as Michonne. She has dark brown skin, long, darker brown hair in locks, a brown sleeveless top, and an earth-toned headband in an African print. She is in a fighting stance, holding a sword at the ready, with an intense expression.

AdderallREQ had someone a little more super in mind. “Wonder Woman. She was the hero I looked up to growing up and, to be honest, at times I still do when things aren’t going right.”

Thia the Bard had a tough time coming up with an answer. “There are so many female characters who have saved and helped shape me. I guess one of the earliest ones is Morticia Addams. Morticia has evolved, while still keeping her core, throughout the years which has been wonderful for me to note as I have grown. She is kind to everyone, even those who do not fit her comfort zone. She is unapologetically herself and loving to all of those around her. She is also dark and, let’s be honest, one of the weirdos. Morticia showed me that you can be yourself and that being that wonderful weirdo is how you can be a positive force in the world.”

It should be noted that while we find inspiration from these women the staff here at Real Women of Gaming stand with Palestine. We are not promoting any company which does not.
