Bullying is a huge problem for many people. The negative effects can last for a person’s entire life. However no one is alone and that knowledge can make all the difference in the world.
That is why You’re Not Alone is so important to us here at Real Women of Gaming. The first ideas for what would become our longest running charity started in 2014. Crymson had heard of a specific case of bullying and wanted to find a way to help. At first it was just Crymson, but then members of Real Women of Gaming and our friends banned together to make videos of our experiences. That didn’t seem like it would be enough.
Fast forward to July 15, 2015. In typical Real Women of Gaming fashion the staff decided to go big or go home. At the Uncanny! Comics store in the King of Prussia mall we had a full day event. It was certainly action packed. There was music, gaming, cosplayers, a raffle, a craft table for kids, and some great food.
That wasn’t all though. There was also the official debut of the official video for You’re Not Alone. The videos that had been submitted were edited together to make one emotional compilation. There was some crying but mostly just real sense of community. The end of the event left everyone tired and happy as they left the mall. We knew that next year would be even better.
Every year since the event has gotten bigger. Real Women of Gaming have been so lucky and grateful to make Uncanny! our home for this charity event while we would stream it live. They have always been so kind to let us take over their store. However this year we are changing it up. Due to Covid concerns we will not be in the store this year.
Instead the event will be completely online! Staff is excited to be able to make sure we can still have this event in a safe way. More details are coming so stay tuned.
All of us are really excited and honored to raise money and awareness to help others.
Please also remember that you are not alone. The staff at Real Women of Gaming and our community are here for you. We have been bullied. We have also seen how much a bunch of nerds banding together can make things better. So I hope you will be able to join us this fall with our first ever completely virtual You’re Not Alone charity event!
ALWAYS KEEP SPARKLING!
